May 7th, 2021

CEISCE organized the colloquium 207 of the 88th online Congress of Acfas, with the theme Towards infrastructure that is resilient to natural disasters and extreme events (in french, «Vers des infrastructures résilientes face aux catastrophes naturelles et événements extrêmes»). The scientific program of the colloquium focused on the development and application of new techniques for the design, assessment, rehabilitation and protection of a multitude of critical infrastructures against the effects of extreme events (earthquakes, ice and glaze, floods, extreme temperatures, winds, shocks and explosions, landslides, etc.), especially in the specific context of Quebec. 12 technical oral presentations were given and 11 scientific posters were presented online by students and postdoctoral fellows of the cluster. More details on the conference program can be found here. Several prizes were awarded in the best oral presentation competition.

Acfas is a Canadian non-profit organization whose mission is to promote scientific activity, stimulate research and disseminate knowledge in French. The Acfas conference is considered the largest multidisciplinary scientific gathering in the French-speaking world. Researchers and professionals gather to present their most recent work, learn about the latest research developments, debate current issues and exchange ideas with colleagues, associations and participating groups. From May 3rd to 7th, the 88th Acfas Congress was held for the first time entirely online in collaboration with the Université de Sherbrooke and Bishop's University, welcoming more than 6000 delegates. A rich program on the theme of «Du jamais su» brought together more than 200 colloquiums that addressed different issues related to the main sectors of research.
