The 12th Canadian Conference on Earthquake Engineering (CCEE 2019) was jointly organized by CEISCE (Centre d'Études Interuniversitaires des Structures sous Charges Extrêmes) andCanadian Association for Earthquake Engineering from June 17th to 20th, 2019, at the Fairmont Château Frontenac Hotel. This is the most important international scientific conference on earthquake engineering in Canada, bringing together every four years in a single event researchers, structural and geotechnical engineers, architects, seismologists and relevant government authorities. Its scientific program was based on the theme ''Improving the seismic performance of our infrastructure and the resilience of the community'', and covered seismic risk, seismology, building codes and standards, geotechnical seismic problems, design and seismic behaviour of structures (bridges, buildings, dams, power lines, etc.), seismic rehabilitation, and the development of new technologies. ), seismic rehabilitation, seismic monitoring devices, social-economic impacts, risk management, dam safety, deep learning computer applications for seismic evaluation of structures, and remote monitoring of structures.
The conference was a true success by any measure with 454 registered attendees from 18 countries - the largest attendance ever for CCEE conferences. The conference started on Monday, June 17th, 2019 with a day of workshops on performance-based design and the 2019 Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code update. The workshops were well attended by the 70 participants who benefited from the knowledge and experience of five speakers in seismic, structural and geotechnical engineering, and seismology. The main conference program was held over three days beginning on Tuesday, June 18th. A total of 240 technical presentations were given by participants during the plenary sessions, and 30 technical posters were presented by CEISCE students in the exhibition halls.
The conference was punctuated by various memorable social events. The CEISCE student committee organized a happy hour at the Ninkasi bar on Tuesday evening, June 17th, for the students attending the conference. This event was an opportunity to meet and exchange with future earthquake engineering professionals from different backgrounds. The evening of Wednesday, June 19th was the highlight of the conference with the traditional reception banquet held in the Salle des Balles of the Château Frontenac with more than 270 participants and the exceptional music and theater show Masques et Bergamasques performed by artists from Québec. The conference ended on Friday, June 21st with a technical tour consisting of a cruise around the New Champlain Bridge.
